Job Description and Duties

The mission of GDSP is “to serve the people of California by reducing the emotional and financial burden of disability and death caused by genetic and congenital disorders” in support of CDPH’s mission “to advance the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities.”

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing administrative and operational assistance to the Laboratory Services Branch (LSB) of the Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) Division. The incumbent performs work of average difficulty in varied technical and analytical tasks, which includes customer service and support in the LSB to maintain ongoing projects and to successfully implement and complete new projects for GDSP.

The Analyst II performs all work under the direction of the Research Scientist Manager (RSM) (Chemical Sciences), LSB Chief. The incumbent provides analytical and consultative support to the Laboratory Services Branch (LSB) by leading and coordinating complex procurement, contract, and operational activities in support of laboratory programs. Under the direction of the LSB Chief, the incumbent manages asset and equipment oversight, supports records retention and regulatory compliance functions in alignment with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and ensures laboratory readiness for state and federal inspections. The position serves as a liaison among GDSP staff, Office of Support Services (OSS), contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve issues, support critical laboratory workflows, and ensure timely processing of screening services. The incumbent also develops analyses, reports, and recommendations to inform leadership decision-making and improve branch operations.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.

Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes into consideration an employee’s designated headquarters, as reflected in the duty statement, and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
