Role Overview:
The ITS & Traffic Operations Engineer supports the implementation, operation, and on-going maintenance of transportation technologies used across the Traffic Management Department. The selected candidate will help manage the state's arterial and freeway systems by working with both hardware and software tools that keep traffic moving safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include assisting with implementation plans, supporting the installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices, and contributing to Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) strategies.
This role offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies that are new to the state, providing an excellent opportunity to build technical skills and grow professionally. The incumbent will develop expertise in the design, function, and operation of roadway software, hardware, and field systems.
Additional responsibilities include helping maintain the statewide ITS architecture, supporting the rollouts of research and pilot projects, and participating in the development, deployment, and operation of advanced software applications used for traffic management and system operation.

This position is located in INDOT's Central Office.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
A degree is not required. However, at least 4 years of professional experience in engineering, civil engineering, transportation research, or a closely related field, applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
