Job Description: AP Center Principal

Mission and School Community
The mission of the AP Center is to prepare students for success in English- language universities
and to equip them with the essential life skills for personal and professional growth. The AP Center
operates as an autonomous academic unit within a prestigious public high school, offering a bilingual program that integrates the rigorous local curriculum with advanced international courses.
General Organization
The AP Center is a specialized academic department within a selective public high school. Students follow the standard local curriculum leading to a high school diploma while also taking courses in English Literature, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), College Research and Writing, and a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Graduates are well- prepared for admission to selective
universities worldwide.

Position Overview
The AP Center Principal, also known as the Academic Principal, is a leadership role that requires
close collaboration with the school administration, faculty—particularly expatriate teachers—and students. The AP Center Principal is responsible for upholding academic excellence, fostering a
positive school culture, and ensuring the effective management and development of the expatriate teaching team. The role also involves occasional public presentations to parents and prospective
students.

Key Responsibilities
1. School Administration and Academic Operations
2. Coordinate with the school administration on daily operations of the AP Center.
3. Actively participate in scheduling, academic planning, and teaching assignments, ensuring alignment with curricular goals.
4. Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and academically rigorous environment that supports high achievement.
5. Serve as a key liaison between the AP Center and the broader school administration.

Management of Expatriate Teaching Staff
1 .Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of expatriate faculty (approximately 10 teachers), ensuring alignment with the AP Center’sacademic standards and mission.
2 .Oversee the professional development of expatriate teachers, including classroom
observations, formal evaluations, and goal- setting to promote instructional excellence.
3 .Facilitate clear and consistent communication between the school administration and
expatriate staff, serving as the primary point of contact for matters related to curriculum, resources, and school policies.
4 .Ensure expatriate teachers have access to necessary teaching materials, technology, and institutional support to deliver high- quality instruction.

5 .Foster a collaborative and supportive professional environment that promotes cross- cultural understanding and staff well- being.
6.Address any performance, disciplinary, or contractual matters involving expatriate faculty in accordance with school policies and legal requirements.

Student Academic Support and Development
1. Maintain a visible and approachable presence among students, ensuring familiarity with each student’sacademic progress and personal development.
2. Carry a limited teaching load to remain actively engaged in instructional practice.
3. Work closely with teachers to identify and support students facing academic or personal challenges.
4. Collaborate with homeroom teachers and counselors to monitor student performance and coordinate support strategies.
5. While parent communication is primarily managed by homeroom teachers and counseling staff, the AP Center Principal may engage with parents in formal meetings or school events.

Qualifications and Competencies
1 .Master’sdegree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
2 .Significant teaching and leadership experience in international or bilingual school settings.
3 .Proven experience in managing and evaluating expatriate faculty, including familiarity with cross- cultural team leadership.
4 .Strong understanding of AP curricula, English- medium instruction, and college preparatory programs.
5 .Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
6.Ability to work effectively within a Chinese public school environment while maintaining international academic standards.

Reporting and Working Relationships
The AP Center Principal directly reports to the Center Director, who in turn reports to the
school- level leader overseeing the International Division. The AP Center Principal works closely with the expatriate teaching team, homeroom teachers, counselors, and support staff. The role is central to ensuring the academic success of students and the professional growth of faculty.
